In order to increase awareness of the public and firms of the fight against counterfeiting and the protection and maximisation of value of industrial property, the Directorate General organised or took part in numerous events (conferences, seminars, exhibitions, meetings), during which it presented its activities and services for users, distributing ad hoc informational material. Several of the major and most significant initiatives are described below.

World Intellectual Property Day - 2010 - 2011 - 2012 Maximising, promoting and publicising the enormous value of intellectual property to assist development, growth and competitiveness of the National Economic System and providing increasingly effective means of fighting counterfeiting is the objective of World Intellectual Property Day. This is an annual event promoted by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on the anniversary of entry into force of its charter. The Directorate-General participates in the event by organising an annual conference on topics relating to industrial property and the fight against counterfeiting for the world of enterprise, education and research.

National anti-counterfeiting day - 2010 - 2011 The National Anti-counterfeiting Day is an annual event (the first ones were held in Rome in July, 2010, and December, 2011) organised by Confindustria in conjunction with the Economic Development Ministry - Directorate-General for the Fight against Counterfeiting - UIBM, with the strategic support of the Department for Community Policies and the Office of the President of the Council of Ministers and the support of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. As well as constituting an excellent opportunity to disseminate information, the event aims to encourage people to think about counterfeiting and get institutions/representatives from civil society actively involved, with the overall goal of assessing the progress made in the area and giving a boost to the efforts made by the main players in the sphere. The event was promoted on the Internet and in national magazines and the free press.

Exhibitions and trade fairs The Directorate-General started participating in trade fairs in 2011, on the basis of the protocol of agreement initialled in 2010 with the leading trade fair associations in the country: Associazione Esposizioni e Fiere Italiane, Comitato Fiere Industria and Comitato Fiere Terziario. The protocol affects around 18 thousand firms. The purpose of this collaboration is raising awareness of small and medium sized firms and promoting the means available to them in the fight against counterfeiting, through distribution of publications, brochures and informational material created by the Directorate-General and a stand at the trade fair, at which visitors (but also other exhibitors) can receive detailed information based on their own requirements. Under the agreement with the national trade fair system, the Directorate-General guaranteed its presence at MIDO (international optics, optometrics and ophthalmology exhibition) in Milan, Vinitaly in Verona, Cersaie (international architectural ceramics and bathroom decor show) in Bologna, SMAU in Milan, G! come Giocare (toy show) in Milan.
